As a professional artist, I've seen different people hold pens different ways... It doesn't affect the way they write or draw... Everyone is different.

Do what you feel comfortable with.

If you are saying that you rest your pen on your ring finger, and have your middle and first finger on the top of the pen, I DO THAT TOO! My mom does it too. I still remember my kindergarten teacher trying to make me change it but I just couldn't use a pen with it resting on my middle finger. It just doesn't work for everybody. You're not stubborn, just different. There is nothing wrong with being different. As long as you can still hold your pen good enough to write, then who cares? Tell your brother to leave you alone. Good luck!

Your brother is stupid.

There is no RIGHT or WRONG way to holding a pen or pencil. Heck, I hold mine with THREE fingers on the top and a thumb and it never affects me at all. I've seen many people hold pens differently. And as an unproffesional artist, it's not that bad and never affects your art.

So no, don't change the way you write. Your brother is the stubborn one believing in there being a RIGHT way to holding things.

NOPE...as long as you feel comfortable on the way you write right now, it doesn't matter if you hold your pen the odd way, besides we are all different, and holding your pen the odd way is your signature... you don't have to change somethings just because people tells you that it's odd or unusual, as long as you're not hurting or stepping on somebody just continue. We are all different, we all have unique identity. and writing using two finger on top of the pen is your signature.

Does your brother think that left-handed writers do not write "correctly?" What does he think of disabled artists and people that have to write with the pen in their mouths?

The "correct" way to write is legibly. Beyond that, technique matters little.

I hold a pen in the "correct" configuration, but my hand writing is atrocious! On the other hand, my hand lettering and calligaphy skills are VERY good, holding the tools in the exact same way. I think it may be because I write with my right, technical side of my brain, which is a disorganized mess, but I letter with my left, creative side, which can visualize in the finest detail, exactly how an image will appear on paper.

I didn't know there was a correct way of holding a pen. I've never heard of it. If I were you I wouldn't worry about it. It sounds like a typical brother thing to say to annoy a sister.

Not if you don't want to or need to change it. I am not sure why your brother has deemed you stubborn for this. I think I like "innovative" better. Perhaps you picked up a writing implement early on before anyone had shown you how it is "supposed" to be held, and you came up with your own way which works for you.

I had a boyfriend years ago who tied his shoes differently from most people. He'd grown up in a large, busy family and no one had taught him. He had figured it out on his own and I always thought that made it not only correct, but innovative.

I don't think there is a "correct' way of holding your pen just hold it however you feel most comfortable. Like me, sometimes I hold it one way and next thing you know am holding it some other way.

You should not change the way you write, because thats you not him. Tell him hes being narrow minded, and the fact that he is even bothered by it is ridiculous.
