Why do so many(not all) black people act as though they were personally enslaved. The truth of the matter is that blacks have as little of an accurate account as to what it is like to be a slave as whites. I'm Irish yet I don't claim to know what it is like to die of starvation as many Irish did during the great potato fathom of 1847. I am a huge history buff and I have read several books about slavery written from the perspective of slaves and slave owners during slavery. Yet whenever I speak to blacks about the issue it surprises me to see that the majority have no idea what they're talking about and have obviously never read up on the slavery. They usually just spew out stereotypical mumbo jumbo propaganda. I guess the point I'm trying to make is that there are far too many black people running around speaking of slavery and oppression of blacks yet they have no education on the matter. Your thoughts...

You're so typical daNi. You speak of racism yet you just accused the whole white race. PS: I think you should subscribe to the reading rainbow magazine for ages 7-12 to help heighten your English skills.

Well, I know for one thing that Irish people were slaves as well. You are right, you never hear them complain.

Those that don't complain focus their energy on trying to gather everything together for the present. It's not so much a sensitive subject, as much as it is one that I don't want to talk about.

What I'm trying to say is, it's the 21st century and if people are pulling cards or still acting as if they are being enslaved, it's just an excuse as to why they can't get over themselves. If I can't get something, Im not going to complain, I will either try harder or try a different route. Life is full of opportunity, you just have to make an attempt.

I don't feel as if I am entitled to anything because I wasn't a slave, my ancestors were. I don't deserve payment for work I didn't do. People will often complain that Holocaust survivors were paid for their troubles.. hmmm, let's look at it again Holocaust SURVIVORS not their families received payment. Not everyone will agree, but that's just how I feel.

I owe my life to this country for the freedoms I have been given, this country owes me nothing other than continuing to protect my rights as a citizen.

EDIT: Thanks seamus!

This question isn't really worth answering - but I am so amazed by the manner in which these questions are phrased that I will answer all the same...

I have many black friends and they have never once uttered anything even remotely resembling a statement about prior enslavement... I think you watched too many movies made by Hollywood producers from the '70s or something...

But comparing the Irish Potato Famine which was instituted economically by England and resulted in death - to the imprisonment, rape, relocation and selling of human beings is absurd... These two points in history are not equitable...

We Irish were treated horribly when we came to this country. Couldn't even find jobs or housing. But I must say, I know many, many black people who have never uttered a word about slavery. I'm sure you know that many times the head of the village in Africa SOLD blacks to the ships. I wish I knew why we all aren't better educated about our history. Or that the truth be told. I agree that some do talk as though they have read much, but most do not. They are just trying to get through life like the rest of us.

i agree w/ you. many use slavery as their excuse for not working hard and making something of themselves, even though no one is discriminating against them now. but most know nothing about slavery, but they do know that their ancestors were slaves, but haven't the slightest idea as to how grateful thoes people would be if they had had an education and they definately wouldn't waste it.

Well, the blacks were enslaved for far less time than the Jews, and if they care to do ANY research, many African tribes still enslave other tribe members, selling their children into slavery for money so the rest of the family doesn't starve.....Makes me SO MAD that we say we are at war to stop oppression in the Mideast (after the whole WMD thing went bust), but there are African countries starving, killing and enslaving their own people. Why don't blacks in this country stop whining about something that happened to their great-great grandfather and lobby to help their great-great-great grandfather's people. I would rather have a war to help the oppressed African people than for oil and I believe if we as Americans were fighting over there to free THOSE people, it would help heal a lot of old wounds here.

Let's not forget about the Native Americans also and other natives who were enslaved by whites and oppressed. You'll hear their descendants say the same things as Blacks about how whites have oppressed their people too.

"maximum persons of whites got here to usa after the civil conflict the place lots of them have been slaves themself in different ecu countries." I agree. "My family contributors got here right here in 1920. Everytime a black individual say "whites" or your human beings" implicating all whites as being descendents of slave investors, i prefer to smack them." in basic terms like whilst human beings say all blacks, pass forward. "under 2 % of all american whites had any family contributors who become in contact in slave paying for and merchandising. And what in regards to the african tribes who offered their human beings to whites to become slaves." They nonetheless do at present, to arabs. "In case a number of you didnt comprehend we didnt pass over there and kidnap them, they have been given to us with the aid of their own human beings as a commerce for aspects, gold, etc." particular for this reason slaves paid off there paintings and a few the place set loose and then delivered slaves there ownself. "additionally, extra whites picked cotton in the time of the 1700's and 1800's below in basic terms as undesirable circumstances because of the fact the blacks. lots of which starved and died." genuine. "It in basic terms kills me that coming from Irish ancestry the place my human beings have been enslaved for over a 1000 years that I must be implicated as a factor of slavery whilst my family contributors wasn't even a factor of this usa till 80 years after it ended" And the those that blame all whites are incorrect. not all white owned slaves and whites at present do not own slaves. in basic terms say why do "some" blacks.

Black ppl have more education on the matter of slavery than any white person ever would. This question proves that YOU have no idea what you're talking about...most white ppl don't when it comes to black ppl.

It isn't about slavery....slavery was only the beginning & root to CENTURIES of oppression of black people. It's also about the civils rights movement, black imprisonment, racial profiling, segregation, PEOPLE STILL HANGING NOOSES FROM TREES!

The children, grandchildren, & great grandchildren of the slaves are still today feeling the effects of the hatred this country was founded on. Of course I don't expect you to fathom this b/c you're white.
