Air is too inconvenient at the time and too expensive. Now if we are talking about the Moller flying cars that is different as those fit in the spot of about a big pickup truck, they take off vertically and can fly about 300mph
and land vertically.
So those would be about as convenient as cars are today.
I would love to buy one but right now at about a million dollars a flying car, no way.

Hi angel baby.
If we had vehicles that could fly on air, we might get places faster than we do now.
However, there could be problems, especially in crowded places like New York. No one seems to obey the traffic laws now; can you imagine if the vehicles were in the air? They would be crashing into each other.
There would be no way to make lanes for the traffic, no place to put traffic signs — it would become a free-for-all. Plus, when there is a traffic accident, not only would the people in the vehicles get hurt, but also the people on the ground, when pieces of the vehicles fall, or the entire vehicle.
I think we should keep the cars on the ground, as they are now. Although I do think we need to find a better type of environment-friendly fuel; I believe we will. Then, we could also have some other vehicles flying in the air.
I think all the emergency vehicles should be flown in the air. That way, they won't get stuck in traffic. They will get to their destination very quickly. Obviously, they will be able to land in a straight down way, kind of like helicopters do. Either that or they will be able to hover where they want, allowing the crew to get out, along with supplies, etc.
I think we could make use of airspace, just not for the general population.
Good idea.

No so far-reached - old sci-fi theory! Everyone has a personal "flying suit" and goes zipping thru the sky from place to place / instantanious transportation is also possible - with "transport grids" set up every 100 yards or so: just step onto one, dial up the grid reference of the one where you want to go to, push the button and - zap! - you're there! Could be fun too!

This seems like a no brainer. If we could fly on air, we would get much better gas mileage with whatever device we use to do it. It could maybe even operate on batteries. Also, we'd probably be able to go much faster.

umm... i'd say driving is much better. even though it might probably be faster to get to places with our "new engines" [as mentioned above]... but we won't have routes. we'd be crashing into each other since everybody is everywhere. and it's not like stop and yield signs would be floating around tellin you what to do. lol. but that would be an adventure. lol. jk. but yeah... that's in my opinion. =]
