I just found out I am pregnant (Friday morning to be exact.) My last menstrual cycle started on Aug 15th. I'm probably a month in. The last 2 weeks before I even THOUGHT I could be pregnant I took Advil PM gel tabs for a bad headache that I thought was due to PMS but in hindsight was probably early signs of pregnancy. Everything I have read says that small adult doses in the first trimester is "OK" but not recommended. Anyone have any insight on this? I don't want to miscarry.

Most women do at least one thing before they know they're pregnant that they shouldn't---many do several. Usually it's not a big deal. There isn't really any reason to worry about it, I'm sure your baby will not be affected by it.

Advil is ibuprofen, not aspirin. They seem to work the same, but I know they are different. Don't worry about it. Small doses are just fine. I would switch to Tylenol, however.

In comparison, I took aspirin throughout my pregnancy, but had to switch to codeine two weeks before birth due to concerns about bleeding. While I would still need to have aspirin again this time around, it will be much less (different problem). Alas, Tylenol does nothing for me. The report below discusses aspirin use in pregnancy. I couldn't find a 'free' report on ibuprofin use.

First of all, Advil is NOT aspirin. Advil contains ibuprofren, which is different from aspirin. Aspirin is a big no-no during pregnancy. You are also not supposed to take Advil/any ibuprofren products, but the danger of this lies mainly in the third trimester. What you read about it being "okay" but not recommended in the 1st trimester is correct. You are not going to miscarry from taking it in such a small quantity. But just don't do it again in the future, to be safe. Tylenol/products containing acetaminophen is okay.

I took Advil for over a month when I was first pregnant cause I had a horrible sinus infection. My son was pefectly fine. As far as I was told, Advil isn't too bad, it's Ibuprofen. Taking aspirin (which I believe is in excedrin and then there's regular aspirin) can cause bleeding and is a big no-no in pregnancy. Good luck!

You will be okay!Dont worry! Just from now on try not to take them anymore! I took Advil for my headaches for about 2 months before I found out i was pregnant. I've always had migraines so i had no idea! But i stopped as soon as i found out. youll be ok!

I've read similar things and I wouldn't worry too much but I'd certainly switch from Advil to Tylenol and limit the intake.

You and your baby are fine - just don't take it anymore

Only take Tylenol for the rest of your pregnancy

Good luck
