when one notices that they are out of beer and need to get some. They usually go to a 7-11 or like a drugstore and pick up a 12 or 24 case of beer. That way there is something to drink other than water. This is popular if one is having a party or friends over and sees that they do not have enough beer for the people over.

Where I'm from a 'beer run' is when you're drinking and the beer runs out. Someone then makes a 'beer run' to get more.
I've never heard of a beer run BEFORE you've started drinking.
