The phrase The Heart of Dixie (originating from Montgomery being the first capital of the Confederate States during the Civil War) is required by state law to be included on standard state vehicle license plates, but has recently been reduced to a very small size and eclipsed by the phrase Stars Fell on Alabama. As of October 2006, Alabama also provides an alternative "God Bless America" license plate at no additional charge.[51] Both plates are considered the standard plate for the state.[52]

Many people, including myself, forget or never realize that NASA has it's center there, along with one in Houston, Texas. If you've ever driven through Alabama, you'd realize how beautiful the countryside is, but, in the summer, wow it's hot and sweatty. It also has some serious thunderstorms during the hurricane season and other "rainy seasons". It has a wonderful history in the Confederacy and seems to be a wonderful place to live. Oh, and my father's side of the family had one or two generations living there. I never got to, however. I'm born and bred Texan. God Bless you.
