When I visit my mother she insists on paying for dinner. I’m now in my fourths and have a good job, but she still the mom. The only time she will let pay is mother’s day. I don’t want to hurt her feelings but I would like to take care of the person that has taken care of me. What do think?

That's difficult. I just went out with my boyfriend's family and they paid. When I go out with my dad he pays. But sometimes I paid when I went out with my mother. Just let her know that you want to do it. Or just try to take care of the bill before it comes to the table.

Understand your situation. Even if you are 80 yrs, to your parents, you are still their children or kids to them!

Well, some parents do still want to do that not because you are capable now. If you know they still can afford it, then let them. You could care for them in another way, like buy them a holiday package or once a while, send them a surprise gift like cake or candies or even a card..you just do it the other way instead.

The eastern way, the working kid use to send monthly allowance back to their parents (a sum which is affordable by you, of course). This way the kid will know how to send an extra amount in near future.

edit: BTW, you can use the trick as pretend to go the loo, but pay on your way to the loo! ha ha

I always pay when I go out with my mom, but it's just the opposite with my dad. He always pays and never lets me. The only way I can ever pay for his lunch or dinner is if I give him a gift certificate. You could try that with your mom.

I would think once a person gets a job and has moved out of the house, they should pay for their own dinner.

I think you are right if you can and wish to. Explain to your mother that there is no problem. That financially you can afford for you guys to eat out. And that it would mean very much to you. If she were to allow this. That you feel very thankful for her raising you and having been there for you, when you needed. That to please let you be there for her.
I am a mother. And have an 18 year old daughter. It would please me immensely. That she turn later on to be a daughter with this way of thinking. God bless you and your mom.

You, just as I, have a beautiful relationship with our moms. Don't rush things, my friend, time will come when we will have to take care of them. Lets just enjoy their love and their pleasure to still do things fore us. Because I, for one will hate to see the day when my mom won't be able to go out with to have a dinner. Enjoy that companionship. Things don't last for ever.

Just pay. Be a man, take the check and pay.
BE firm. Like she was with you when you were little
It sounds like she had done a fine job raising you.
You are a good son.

I say let her pay for it, my parents do the same thing, so what I do is send a card and tell them I was just thinking about them or just because I love you and put a few dollars in there for them. They appreciate it and think I am so wonderful.....smile

Let her continue to pay. She wants to take care of her child like she used to and this makes her feel better. It's her way of feeling important in your life.

Let her pay or you can pay for the bill (make a exit to the powder room and pay the server) this way your mom can't pay...
