To get to the root of this hillbilly association---My dad moved to Indiana in 1942 as did a lot of my uncles from Tennessee and Kentucky. Thus the old saying was if you take all The Hillbillies from Kentucky and Tennessee out of Indiana there would be no one left!!!. My people and alot of others from the 2 states came north for work. Indiana is a more Manufacturing state than an agricultrural state back then. Another olf Joke back then from my dad and uncles was this. I was taught the 3 Rs in school--Readin--Rightin--& ROUTE #31 NORTH !!!!

I've been to different parts of Indiana and am going to Indiana State Park to go hiking next month. It has some beautiful parts and some nasty parts just like Illinois (where I'm from!)

Hehee..that's funny! I live in Indiana...it is where my dad was born (although it is not where I was raised) and I have never heard of it being thought of as a hillbilly state...maybe kinda bland and boring, but not hillbilly... lol

Over the border we have NY, Md, Va, W Va, and I think Ohio is out there somewhere. Where I sit, we aren't in any position to make fun of others. There's a corner they call Pennsyltucky. Does that give you a clue? Indiana's a proper state, and I'm in no position to make fun of it.

Indiana is a midwestern state like all the other midwestern states that are ignored and laughed at by California.
Its home of the Colts and David Letterman!
Home of the 0-4 Notre Dame team
Home of the quarried rock that built America's government
buildings
Home of the Michael Jackson and the Jackson 5
Home of the Indy 500

I think of Indiana basketball..Bobby Knight was the best basketball coach Indiana ever had and will ever see. I'd have played for him any day.
