I have a hp slimline s3100y and it only takes low profile video cards. Hp says use a card that takes 30 watts or around. I heard the http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814127301
uses around 40 watts. I only have 160w powersupply. Would it be dumb to put that video card in?

Your power supply is too small. Either it will be a show stopper OR it could smoke out your PC in no time at all. Get a good 300-350W power supply preferably with at least 16 amps on the +12V rail.

Listen to Computer Guy he probably fixes lots of HP's yeah their quality is that good...

Sorry for the sarcasm just cant stand a company like HP that does stand behind their products very well. I bought a scanner for my Macintosh back in the days of MacOS 8 and upgraded to OS X about a month after buying the scanner. When I contacted HP about getting drivers for OS X for my scanner they said buy a new scanner....

I have not heard many good things about there customer service from that time to now. So not to many things have probably changed.

Yes. Even if your power supply covers it, which is probably iffy, the heat dissipation is going to kill your machine. HP's recommendation is based on firm engineering decision, why not take their advice?
