I'm having twins a boy and a girl, they are due in two months and I love the names Hamish Paul and Avril Ellen but my husband isn't so sure, how can i convince him or is there a way we can compromise? As I have wanted to name my children this since I was very young.

you better do some sweet talking because they are great names. as a comprimise you could let him pick the middle names but under no circumstances change the first names, they are perfect. i dont like giving twins the same initials and i'm glad you havent. what names does your husband like ?

I can understand where your husband is coming from. I don't particularly like Avril Ellen, Hamish is so/so but I think you need to re-think your girl name choice. I can understand about wanting a baby name since your were very young, I always wanted a baby girl called Melanie but hubby was not for it. Its not worth arguing over and causing friction just because of a name. Make sure its something you both agree on 100% or one will end up resenting the other. Its just not worth it in the long run.
One way of compromising and finding names you both like is to both make a list of 5-10 names you like. Compare the lists and see where the commonalities are and you may find a name you both like. My girlfriend did this with her hubby and both times they both had one name the same on their lists and then it was easy.
Or put up a list of alternatives names on the fridge and let hubby cross off names he doesn't like and you add more until there is one you can both agree on.
Best of luck

Avril is pretty but Hamish either refers to food or the religous nutters with funny clothes depending on the pronounciation. To make it fair (and seems like the consensus on this board of who likes what name) have him name the boy and you name the girl. You both get one name you love.

Why don't you let him pick the boy name (as long as it's something you don't totally hate) and you pick the girl name.

Or both of you come up with a shortlist of about 20 names (you for the girl and him for the boy) that you can narrow down and each of you have veto rights to the top five that you absolutely don't want on the list and keep paring down from there.

I LOVE the name Avril by the way!!!

Maybe you could talk with him and come to some sort of compromise. How attached are you to the middle names? I'm not trying to be mean but your husband should have some say in what your kids are named.

I have always thought both parents should chose all of the children's names. My husband and I made a list each and only kept the ones we both liked. We used a baby name book. We both liked the names though neither of us got our exact first choice. Now I couldn't imagine them with any other name.

I would rethink the Hamish. I know you love it but the child is bound to be picked on.

It'll be hard for you but you to compromise with him. If he really doesn't like then maybe he should be in charge of naming the boy and you name the girl. Fair is fair.

Let it go.
They are half you - half your husband. His opinion is just as important as yours. Maybe you can each choose the name of one of the twins if you can't reach a compromise.
It's time to be adults about this.

A kid named Hamish gets beat up in school.
