my brother had a garden and he had his plants all really close together and he had a pumpkin plant and a tomato plant really close together actually about 5 pumpkin pants and 10 tomato plants right next to each other and every pumpkin turned out to be orange except one and it was blood red and im thinking it might have something to do with planting it so close to the tomato plant? idk what do you think? just a weird pumpkin? or cross breed?

Not possible. Even if it were, the hybrid would occur in next years pumpkins provided your brother saved the seed from his plant to plant next spring. The change to produce a hybrid has to occur in the seed first and then the vegetable. Therefore, It's just a weird pumpkin.

Is there still a way to determine if the red 'tumpkin' is on the same vine as the normal pumpkins? If on different vines its just a weird pumpkin, if on the same vine it's very, very weird. I've seen red squash that look like flattened pumpkins. There is also a phenomenon I've seen in my "Goth Garden" (all dark or purple foliage) that some green plants in close proximity show unusual darkening. Has anyone else seen this? RScott

It might be the bees and other insects pollinating.

This is so strange. You should call your local County Extension Service/Agent and tell them about this.
