I was reading some my questions and answers and thought, "wow I sound really intelligent" I couldn't verbally express myself that way if my life depended on it.

Mainly because it's faster and more immediate. You can't go back and edit what you say. Also, when you talk to someone, you are watching for their reactions, listening to what they say and thinking about your reply. You also may be more emotionally involved in the situation.

Also, if I remember correctly from a psychology class, reading and writing are from a different area of the brain than speaking and listening. It's probably actually more visual.

There are a lot of people for which the reverse is true, they speak better than they write.

I've done lots of writing, six years full time, all time, in a hut in countryside. Millions of words.
One day I became aware that I wasn't the creative one, I was just listening to a voice. The voice never lost track, the voice would speed up if the pen did, slow down to a crawl if I wanted to.. The eloquence of the voice is with me so long as I speak the subjects I write. If I speak small talk, I'm on my own

Well actually..I would have to say it depends on the nature of the question I have no problem verbally speaking on all issues except the issues of the Heart...When I'm asked personal questions some how I'm immediately...All Choked Up and would definately prefer the keyboard over the soap-box...Lol...

Yes I do. I find that I take more time when I am writing and think more clearly about how I want to say something. Being able to get your point across so others may understand it takes some finesse. I do consider myself well spoken verbally, but all the more so when I write.

Most people's vocabularies are ranked in this order (lowest to highest):

- Speaking
- Writing
- Listening
- Reading

So we use better language when writing because there's more time to think, and reading vocabulary is best because we often understand words from the context, and there's more time to think.

Yea, I sound like I know things when I write it down. I can actually see what I am saying and change it if it sounds stupid. The way I talk and the way I type are two completely separate languages.

Almost equal! Only, it takes effort to shake off lethargy, when getting down to writing! Talking is 'easier'!

Yes, when I'm writing, I can be precise and articulate. When speaking, I don't talk too good.
