My ex has harassed me endlessly. He also used to work part time for the police department doing different things. Sometimes he'd use them to do certain things like play jokes or run backgrounds on people at random. Even call and harass people. I switched phone numbers, apartments, even doctors because I am pregnant. I am afraid he will get my doctor information and if he does that he will try to find out my scheduled appointments, er visits, any personal information at all by posing as a cop or having them call. He does this I've seen it first hand. Can he do this? I need to know so I can warn my doctor that he might attempt it. I have even kept my due date from him and am worried about any attempts to get my information.

I am going to tell my doctor I have to call him next week anyway. So I think I will go to the judge and get a restraining order against him.

HIPPA LAWS regulate who can access your information. If he doesn't have a court order mandating them to turn them over, he won't be able to get them. No judge will give him the order without proper cause and he could lose his badge if he lies to them in order to get it. You can make sure that your doctor knows the situation and can flag your account to alert them if anyone tries to get your information.

I think they ask you for all the personal information at the doctor's office so they can go after you for any bills that are not paid and they are entitled to do so; they are providing care for you and need to have that information. They have to know your birth date so they know which patient they are referring to. There could be many named Susie Smith and they have to make sure they are treating the right patient so a birth date is imperative; SS # to be sure it is the same patient, as well. I doubt whether the receptionists are really concerned with stealing your identity. They are pretty busy keeping up with all the medical paperwork which keeps them very well occupied. When I am a patient, I always fill out the information because I want to have my records in order when they are needed (and I don't want them confused with someone else's if I am in a critical situation and need immediate emergency care). You hear about identity thefts but I have never heard about them at a doctor's office or from a hospital; it is usually when someone gets information from you over the internet or telephone or when your credit card is stolen. I don't think you need to worry about your doctor's office.

Legally, he cannot have access to your medical information unless you authorize him to do so. I don't know how he is able to find out anything about your doctor visits, but if someone is telling him from the office, they are violating HIPPA and should be fired. Background checks can only reveal public information. Call the police and ask for a restraining order. Tell them you are being stalked by your ex.

Your personal information can be received from a doctor's office and it can be an entirely legal exchange. This happens countless thousands of times every day in the case of insurance carriers and doctor's offices as well as other healthcare service providers. Most doctors offices will regularly refuse to release information about you except by strict compliance with HIPAA rules. If a person already has enough of the correct personal information about you, then it's not impossible to obtain further personal information about you.

The Health Insurance Portability and Accountablity Act (HIPPA) prohibits health care facilities from releasing information to anyone without your permission.
Not even a police officer can get this information unless you sign a release form.

Due to HIPPA laws the office can not give him any information with out your signed consent. If they do then you need to contact the person in your state who deals with HIPPA compliance, the doctor's office should give you this information. The office can get into a lot of trouble for giving out your information no matter who asks for it. You have to give them permission to give out the info.

He can try to get the info, but if your Doctors office receptionist has half a brain she'll know that it's illegal to discuss your medical information with anyone YOU haven't given them permission to speak to.
I would give them a heads up that he may try something, but the law that makes it illegal is the HIPPA act. It's a privacy law.
Good luck with your pregnancy!

Not...He can't even if he still marry to you not he can't...If he is treating you, You have to sign the release of medical information of yours...Other wise nobody can't get info of you... You need to report to the police and make a protection order and make sure to record what he says...Take his treats seriously...When someone treats they can do make real their treat...Call 7your or go to your Doctors office and tell them what's going on understand?

I assume you have a lawyer in this case. Write and type out all of these instances, give it to your lawyer, and get the judge to issue an order stopping him from harassing you.

He shouldn't be able to but unfortuanately we do not have a perfect system. I would alert your doctors office so they can tab your file with an alert to double check the askers information.
