You always hear in sports about getting into the records books for something i.e. Bonds homers, MarinoTD passess. Is there really a real book these records are kept in?

Yes, very detailed records are kept on every professional sport and published in many different books.

The Sporting News used to publish the record book every year. Now for some reason, it has switched to an on-line publication only. So you can still look stuff up, but it's tough to fit it in the bookcase.

There are some reference books out there still, such as the almanac or baseball-specific stuff. But it's not like it used to be.

Look up SABR on the web. They rule the baseball stat world.
