I tend to blame religion for much of the misery in the world, but I have to remember it's really people using religion as an excuse for their innate viciousness. Sure people start wars over greed, but I suspect religion--or the belief that your god approves of what you are doing--is also an underlying reason.

This is a very broad question. You really need to define your words so that a proper answer can be given.

Much of the terrorism in the last few years has been in the name of Islam and hatred has been stoked up by a group of people with their own agenda of greed and power. It is probably not much different than Lenin and his 17 followers taking over Russia which resulted in significant bloodshed for many years. It was an issue of power and greed but not religion unless you consider state sponsored atheism as a religious motivation.

Every riot is not a war. The issues between Israel and the Palestinians may have a religious pretext, but once again has to do with power and probably greed.

eesh devil??? why is anybody happening approximately devil?? take accountability human beings! (i certainly sense like punching devil pushers, they're so stupid) yet anyhow, maximum wars in the previous have been brought about with the aid of faith, whether now we are stepping into the rage of having wars over ideologies (facism vs communism and the wobbly wall in between), its all notably stupid. Noone conquers every physique else anymore or quite looks to benefit from cutting-edge armed conflict of any style. So yea, without faith wars might probable nonetheless be happening, probable wouldnt be as many however

I wouldn't say so in the past, but extreme religious views seem to be the root cause of war in modern times.
The way I see it, although I do realise it's not this simple, is that in the past wars were fought for land and power.
Now wars are fought against people. Not one country fighting against another for land, but one group of people trying to destroy another group of people. I guess this started with Hitler in WW2.
I think the new kind of war is far more disturbing. Sure, war has never been great, but in the past people went to war without thinking. It was simply their duty to their country.
Now people's religious beliefs lead them to fight wars with intentions of destroying PEOPLE.
It's a scarey though, what is becoming of humanity.

I think the idea behind organized religion is good - The idealism. We however are only human, and shiftless religious leaders can and will take their flock down paths of vengeance. I hate to admit it, but yes, organized religion has always caused wars.

nope. religion doesn't cause wars. religions are used as an an excuse to why they entered the war, why they should go to war and why the was a war to begin with. most wars are cause by peoples greed, advancement in technology, more space is needed. things like that are to blame for wars.

Religion is most often the tool used by the powerful to persuade the canon fodder class to step up for another round of patriotic kill and be killed.

The only victors in war are people who seek power and those who gain it.

Cheers :-)

If you are referring to Religion as in an institution, with their 'pompous self-righteous infallible views' then I would say they are guilty of being a 'false witness', and use God to feed their own evil desires. If you are referring to Christianity then I would say no, as to be a Christian is to be like Christ, so no practicing Christian should condone this behavior. However it is my firm belief that it's not religion but the corrupt evil mind that disguises itself in any form it can to destroy all that is good and true... Unfortunately this form tends to be hidden within the veil of religion. My point being it is not religion but the evil powers that infiltrate it...

I don't know if it's "most" but it is to blame for a lot of wars, as well as a lot of murder and other types of suffering and misery. Misguided people doing things "in the name of God".
