Why are you concerned that he will be left handed? It's not a handicap or something that will debilitate him for the rest of his life...I am a left hander myself and have no problems with everyday life. Sure there are some products that most people use in their everyday life that are specially designed for right handers (scissors for example) but we learn to adapt, or just use the other hand. Don't MAKE him right handed, but teach him to use either hand.

I am left handed, the dominant side of the brain for lefties is the RIGHT side. Don`t be concerned, let him discover his true dominant side himself. All lefties adapt to the right handed world( righties think with the LEFT side of their brain). There is a study that is trying to prove that lefties are more able to "think outside the box" and are more creative than right handed people. Also in my time and my fathers` it was a common practice to try to change a Left handed person into a right handed person. BIG MISTAKE! Luckily, my father stood up for me and refused to let this occur. There were 5 lefties in my class, I was the only one not converted and the others had trouble with their studies after conversion. Their math skills and writing skills were below par afterwards, one even began to studder! Remember they were forced to use the non- dominant part of their brains. Being a lefty no longer has a stigma attached to it, we sometimes see things differently but that is sometimes a very good thing. One more thought, in H.S. I took shorthand, I was the teachers` 1st Lefty, the only difference for me was I had to turn the pad upside down to fit the way I used a pen, but in my 1st year I was able to do 135 words a minute!!!! That teacher thanked me for teaching her how to teach a Lefty!!!!! As to scissors, I bought 2 pairs of left handed ones.

i dont think its genetic i no lots of left handed ppl whos parents or even grandparents are right handed my sisters baby is almost 2 and she has used her left hand for everything and my sister nor my parents are left handed , its a part of your brain thats sends signals from when your born to your hands and feet ect... and peoples brains and signals are all different its somthing you just naturaly do. you cant change being lefthanded or right handed.

My son was naturally left handed when he was young. He did go between left and right for a bit as a toddler, but when he colored, it was always his left hand.
He's 9 yrs. old now, and does most things left handed. He's had to adapt some things because it's just easier to learn them right handed (i.e., mousing).
My father was left handed and I do some things left handed (golfing, batting, and sometimes eating). In my family's case, I would say there's heredity involved.

I think so. I was never really taught to have a preferred side but I have used my left hand as far as I can remember. I don't think which ever use of dominant hand is anything to be concerned about.

Well, since science has already proven that your are born left handed or right handed, I don't know why you are wondering about it? It is mostly hereditary. I have 2 brothers who are left handed as well as a great-aunt. I was born left handed, but after a head injury at age 5, started using my right hand. I can print equally well with both hands and eat with my left hand, but otherwise everything else is right handed. My 3rd brother, is ambidextrous.
Did you know that mirror image twins ALWAYS has one child who is right handed and one who is left handed?

I think so, I'm left handed so is my brother. My parents and teachers forced me to write with my right hand. One kept telling me it was wrong and only backward people did that.
As someone else pointed out I felt like there was something wrong with me cause I am a lefty. I was embarassed to eat in front of people cause I use the fork in my left hand.
My advice to you is to let your son alone, there is nothing wrong with being a lefty and you'll damage his sense of worth by making him feel that being left handed is somehow wrong.

umm... yes left handedness is given by genetics. trying to teach a child to use a hand hes not comfortable with using may make him feel like hes not right. oh yea im left handed and did i mention that left handed people can get scolarships to colleges for it? you should consider not being so picky. it doesnt mean hes stupid. also its proven left handed people are more artistic. all it mean is hes using the right side of his brain and not his LEFT side like RIGHT handed people. consider your child unique and wonderful not stupid or an outcast

I was naturally left-handed and my teachers at school tried to change me. (It would be better to be right handed because everything is made for right handed people.) But you get what nature gives you. I am pretty ambidextrous now. It's sort of like, you can dye your blond haired kids hair brown, but underneath it still grows in blond.

It has nothing to do with what you teach him, some people are just left-handed, there is nothing wrong with it and you should just let him use whatever hand he feels comfortable with.
