I would and I have! That person will be in trouble if his/her draw doesn't count down accurately. If you don't return the money, the clerk might be accused of stealing and could lose his/her job or reputation for trustworthiness.
See? Extra money for you can result in a chain of events that could harm someone else. People need to remember this. I was a clerk and was lucky that I never had this happen, but others did.
At your own job or a future one, YOU might be the clerk. Wouldn't you be grateful to the customer who caught an error?

If I notice the mistake, yes I would. Mostly because I don't want her to be reprimanded by her boss later for her drawer being off...I was a cashier once and they always assume you just stole the money.

I would give the money back. At the end of the day the cashier has to cash out, and if he/she is low it may come out of their paycheck. Anyone who has to deal with the public on a daily basis deserves every bit of their paycheck.

Yes, many times I've had that happen. I was once a cashier and I know that some employers make you pay for shortages in your register and those people make little enough as it is!

Yes you do.. and I did too.. I was at a grocery store ... cashed a big check... was given a $100 too much.. I returned it.. its the right thing!
Repercussions: the cashiers drawer comes up short and he/she gets fired or put under suspicion... then that would make it your fault then..
IF you never realize it, then ur not responsible...

Yes. It's not worth 5 bucks to be sneaky like that. If I was starving and desperately needed the 5 bucks to eat then I would probably keep it to myself.

Of course. Otherwise, the cashier could get into trouble.

Yes, I do. It is amazing how many will argue with you. They can't believe you want to give them back the extra money.
