1) Yom Kippur started Friday night at dusk and goes through tonight at dusk. Literally, "Day of Atonement", this is the holiest day of the Jewish (Hebrew) year. It's a day of fasting and prayers of repentance (and historically a day of Temple purification. It's a solemn day marked by the underlying joy in the certainty of forgiveness. It is a day for "new beginnings".

2) Tomorrow also marks the first day of Autumn (fall) in the Gregorian calendar used by most western societies. This is at the Fall Equinox. It too can be a day of thanks for the year's harvest and can have various other religious overtones.

3) Per a United Nations resolution, Sept.21 is observed as the Day of International Peace since 2002.

What is up with the prejudicial Remarks? I take offense at ANY form of prejudice .. and to use a racist remark ('white people') IS offensive. This is the 1st day of Autumn .. you know, start of the fall harvest festivals.

(also google .. and you can find plenty of interesting facts or events that happen on this day).

PS: We are all human beings .. and should ALL be treated with Dignity and Respect.

Tomorrow (9/23) is the day Ray Charles, the blind pianist/singer/songwriter, was born in 1930. Sept 23 is CHECKERS DAY in America. It refers to a speech President Nixon gave on a question of contributions made to him on the same day he told of a dog given to his daughters which they named CHECKERS. This speech quickly became known as the "Checkers" speech, and went on to be one of the better speeches in American political history. With "Checkers" the dog included in the speech, this day was sometimes referred to as Dogs in Politics Day. 9/23 is also the birthday of the following people: Walter Pidgeon, actor, Mickey Rooney, actor, Julio Iglesias, singer, Bruce Springsteen, singer, songwriter, Jason Alexander, actor.

Now, what do WHITE people celebrate on September 23, is beyond me. Do you ENJOY making yourself foolish? If you do, congratulations, you exceeded your expectations, at least as far as I'm concerned.
