I just added live sand into my salt water tank, and the water got really cloudy. I have the filtering system running and the water is still not clear. Anything I can do clear the water up?

Is this a new setup???
If it is, use a HOB or canister filter stuffed with filter floss or old socks, Rinse the floss a couple of times per day for about 2 days, your tank will clear up.

Is the tank already cycled???
if it is you can do the same.
If it is cycled, DO NOT SYPHEN the gravel, you will remove too much of the bacteria that you are trying to grow.
DO NOT TURN OFF YOUR FILTER OR POWER HEADS
this will make your water stagnant and also kill off your benificial bacteria.

Be patient and the HOB or canister will pick up these particles in a couple of days.

The material that makes up this "sand" is aragonite, which is similar in composition to chalk. When the bag got moved around in transport, the pieces of material run together an produce the dust you've now got clouding up your tank.

This can take days to clear, even with multiple filters on the tank. One simple way to clean it out faster is to turn off the filter, powerheads, or whatever moves the water and allow the dust to settle. Then use a gravel vacuum to siphon up the dust from the bottom into a large bucket. Once you have the dust out, turn on a powerhead or airstone to keep the tank aerated (the water level may be too low for your filter to work, and you may need several buckets). Once the water in the buckets settles, you can use a container to dip the clear water at the top back into the tank.

Keep the cloudy stuff at the bottom - it contains calcium, magnesium, and other minerals that will benefit organisms in the tank. Just add a little back each week (shake it up to mix, then add about a teaspoon or more, depending on the tank size).
