Quit pulling the battery cable off before you blow something and get a $15 voltmeter to check the alternator.
There's a wire going to your alternator that should have 12 volts on it when you turn the ignition on. It comes from a resistor parallel to the idiot light if that's what you have. If that 12 volts isn't there, the alternator won't start up.

a couple of things to check. Why did you replace the alternator? It might not have been the problem. there is a fusible link in the wire to the alternator. Double check to see if the link is good.
Also check to make sure the alternator that you installed is good..

sounds like you still have a bad alternator. when it's running take a screw driver and see if there's a magnetic pull at the back of the alternator. Did you buy an alternator from NAPA? Don't!

pulling the battery cable off is a good way to blow the regulator .. get it checked by some one that knows how it works and knows how to test it
