i don't see why you can't use fairly large pots with pans under them for drainage. you might try tomatoes, yellow squash, green onions, any of the herbs that you like to use, if you plant something like cucumbers, you might put it near the edge of the window and run a string up the side of the window for it to climb on. you could put one on the other edge of the window so it has a balanced green frame around the window.you could put a row of smaller pots of herbs against the window and a 2nd row of larger pots. it would give you more room than just 1 row. another thing that might grow for you is peppers. it takes awhile for pineapples to produce, but you could try since it would be inside. when you cut the top off of a fresh pineapple, put it right into the dirt. if you try to root it, it will just rot. good luck have a blessed day!

Because you live in Seattle, the #1 city with the LEAST amount of sunlight, the size of your window is not an issue here. You will need supplemental light that is full spectrum. Usually this can be achieved by installing flourescent fixtures overhead and using full spectrum lights in it. You could also consider placing floor lamps (3) at equally spaced intervals and using full spectrum light bulbs. They should be on a timer for 6 - 8 hours per day. Sunlight and temperature are very critical. Watering and fertilizing are not as important if the plants can't grow...... I'd also consider covering the window in 3M film for the winter months to keep the frigid air away from your garden plants...And block off floor heat registers. Dry, hot air is not conducive for plant care.
Consider protecting your floor with 3ml thick paint cloths (plastic) that can be purchased from Home Depot, etc. You need to be thinking "hot house" and perhaps invest in an electric heater to run overnight when outside temperature plummet.
I'd use plastic whiskey barrels for maximum planting surface. You can plant above and below crops. i.e. tomatoes with carrots, garlic or potatoes. Green beens with beets, kolarabi or radishes.... One barrel could be just herbs!! Be sure to drill holes in the bottom for drainage and you will need to place each whiskey barrel into a large dish that will catch any overflow of water. And very importantly, mist your plants regularly with a water spray bottle to help with humidity. You could also place 9 x 13 aluminum baking pans between the whiskey barrels and fill them with pebbles and water to add humidity.
Remove any furniture from the room that has fabric or wood. They will not like the humidity.....
If you are planning on growing pole beans or cucumbers make sure you give them something to climb on. This can easily and inexpensively be achieved with 3 bamboo stakes that you spread out at the bottom and tie together at the top.
Use a water soluble plant fertilizer like Miracle Gro for vegetables and water in at half strength every two weeks.
Good luck and good gardening!

Probably not. This time of year even though the sun is shining it won't be enough for most veggies. They will get leggy and not do well. They need more hours of light than we get this time of year in the Puget Sound area. You might try some herbs and stuff like that. Or you could use grow lights to supplement the daylight. I recall starting our own tomatoes and they needed 12-14 hours of light a day. In another month we won't come close to that from the sun.

It is normally recommended to plant a garden facing South.
Read the package to see how many hours of sunlight the product needs to grow, if you can provide that amount, I see no problem.
I agree, grow your own, it's much better and so enjoyable.
May I suggest you make a "raised garden". It prevents stooping and wild animals.
Lots of luck.
