I am offering this poem to you,
since I have nothing else to give.
Keep it like a warm coat,
when winter comes to cover you,
or like a pair of thick socks
the cold cannot bite through,

I love you,

I have nothing else to give you,
so it is a pot full of yellow corn
to warm your belly in the winter,
it is a scarf for your head, to wear
over your hair, to tie up around your face,

I love you,

Keep it, treasure it as you would
if you were lost, needing direction,
in the wilderness life becomes when mature;
and in the corner of your drawer,
tucked away like a cabin or a hogan
in dense trees, come knocking,
and I will answer, give you directions,
and let you warm yourself by this fire,
rest by this fire, and make you feel safe,

I love you,

It's all I have to give,
and it's all anyone needs to live,
and to go on living inside,
when the world outside
no longer cares if you live or die;
remember,

I love you

i believe your question doesnt ask me to define simile, metaphor or imagery.. but to find examples in this poem

there are no exapmles of simlies or metaphors.. due to the fact that metaphors compare two totally UNLIKE things.. so "keep it like a warm coat".. is nor a simlie or metaphor.. it is not comparing anything.. nor are the things unlike to each other..

many instances of imagery are found in this poem..

in general when the author decribes how to keep their love.. and what to do with it imagery is shown..

Keep it, treasure it as you would
if you were lost, needing direction,
in the wilderness life becomes when mature;
and in the corner of your drawer,
tucked away like a cabin or a hogan
in dense trees, come knocking,
and I will answer, give you directions,
and let you warm yourself by this fire,
rest by this fire, and make you feel safe,

it lets you see a picture of how much you should treasure their love.. as if you were lost in the wilderness.. then you found someone's cabin.. they let you in.. and you're warm.. treasure it as being lost.. and then being found... =)

similes are comparisons between two unlike things using like or as
ex.- keep it like a warm coat when winter comes to cover you

metaphor is the same as a simile except you directly compare it without like or as
ex. - it is a pot full of yellow corn

imagery is any language used that describes a picture and you can "see" the picture of what the author is saying
ex-a scarf for your head, to wear
over your hair, to tie up around your face

poetry is tricky, but it's all about the interpretation of the message by the reader.

good luck!

check definition of the imagery etc

Imagery:
Language that describes something in detail, using words to substitute for and create sensory stimulation.
Metaphor: a direct relationship where one thing or idea substitutes for another
Simile: an implied relationship where one thing or idea substitutes for another (it is like something;)

**
this is not clear "when winter comes to cover you," how?

or like a pair of thick socks
"the cold cannot bite through" !!??

treasure it as you would
if you were lost, needing direction,
"in the wilderness life becomes when mature;" !!??

good luck

Your question is like the rain So transluscent as stained glass Answered like a hurricane By the mightiest gale That beckons as a temptress To her unknowing mate
