I'd be nice and stuff it full of towels to soak up the excess. That way when they unload those nasty towels into the bathtub they will have an easier time unclogging their toilet.
Then I'd insist we all catch a movie or go do something at a different location. On the way out I'd leave a note saying they should buy new towels immediately.

I've never clogged a toilet at a strangers house, but if I did, I'd just be honest about it and tell them.

One of my son's did that at his brother's apartment. There was no plunger so my two sons and the other two people there all jumped in the car to go to the store to buy a plunger. It was 2:00 in the morning and they ended up getting pulled over by the police for speeding. They had to explain why they were in such a hurry at that time of night. It's funnier when my son tells the story.

if there is a towel bar above the toilet yank it off the wall real loud, throw the towel in the toilet and yell.
"Dude, the towel bar hit me in the head when I was taking a duke and the towel's in the toilet!!"

die with embarrassment, hastily leave the toilet, hoping no body will see me, then act all innocent, if caught, say, if was like that before I went in, tried flushing, didn't work, so now I'm popping home to use my own toilet.

this is that classic "wanna get away?" commercial from Southwest Airline eh? lol!!!! I would try to plunge the toliet myself, if not, then have your friend call you on your cell for emergency and get out. lol!!
