Hi am haveing some truble with my Frod:

I have a quick question. My 2000 Ford Explorer 4.0 liter V-6. automatic transmission ,

The car has 80,680 miles. the other day when I stepped on the gas a little harder than usual the transmission felt just like a standard transmission when you miss a shift. The engine revved and the tach rpm jumped and at list twice my OD/OFF came on blinking none stop i had to shut of the engine to reset it

I also took it in to have it fluched they told me they could not get anny pressure ont here mechine they guy said there might be a problem with the transmision

some one said to change the trani filter first then go from there
is that something I can do and easy?
were is it located?

one of my coworkers sejested:

Don't get it flushed, just replace any fluid that comes out with the filter.
go from there?

I could use some input thanks.

It would be kind of hard to change the filter without dropping the pan genius. And dropping the pan only gets about 20% of the fluid out on an Explorer.
If there's no fluid pressure and you're not out of fluid the pump is bad. All they do when they flush its break the cooler line at the radiator and let the pump push out the old fluid while they run new fluid back to the transmission. The transmission is still young enough that I'd get a shop to replace the pump before I got a rebuilt.

Actually it's a question mark and that's exactly what we tell our customers Sometimes it's just normal wear and flushing takes away the problems the customer is having as the additives have broken down to turn that color, but we've seen some on their last legs be black also and be from friction disk material and the thicker oil is what is helping apply the materials in the tranny So be prepared for a trans rebuild but flush it if you are having issues, if not, best bet may be to leave it alone until it fails But recommend a flush and filter change.... not flushing the whole transmission I've seen causes issues also (as have the capacity stays in the tranny with old style fluid changes)

On the MSN home page today there is an article about changing transmission fluid!

Just changing the filter is not enough, you need to drop the pan and get out as much as you can. See article

I would stay away from dealer, way away. Find a transmission shop, not aamco or those tv places. Don't know where you are but must be a local that does trans. work. Never mind this filter and flushing stuff get an opinion from the shop that does trans. as their main business
