I'd support it, if for no other reason than our taxes would plummet. Isolationist? Is it isolationist if you don't enter your neighbor's home unless you're invited? Many people don't know the difference between "isolationist" and "non-interventionalist". Let the world worry about the world, if they need our help they'll ask. In the meantime we're spending more on our military than the rest of the world COMBINED. And for what? Bring 'em home, all of 'em, cut taxes, and let's start fostering a sense of community instead of being the world's policeman.

Sure, there are people who think like that. They are called isolationists.I don't think that's a good idea, not for the world and not for America.
Imperialism is one extreme, isolationism is the other. It's also tried and failed.I can see why this position would gain popularity after the Bush fiasco but that doesn't change the fact that isolationism is just as unrealistic and dangerous.Between the two world wars America turned its back on the world which gave Hitler the opportunity to rise in Europe.
The UN and NATO could be forces for world peace and I do think the world community and America has a place there and should react sometimes. The Ruanda genocide could have been prevented and what's happening now in Darfur and close to happening in Ethiopia should not be ignored.
American forces and aid helped Europe maintain peace after the second world war and that was good for Europe, good for America and good for the world. If Bill Clinton hadn't assisted the Bosnian government when confronted with Serb aggression that government would have probably have no choice than to rely on al quaida forces and we would have had a strong al quaida stronghold in Europe.
America shouldn't turn its back on the world. How about following the UN charter?

Don't be so stupid. Of couse it would be the optimum ideal, but the fact remains that America has the largest well trained armed forces in the world. Withdrawing every single serviceman/woman is going to help nobody. Okay, none of them are going to die if that happens, but they signed up for service, and part of that involves, I would assume, something along the lines of "protecting their country by all means, sacrificing their own lives if needs must". It is a nice idea, but we all know that it will never happen, and anyone who bothers to answer it either has too much time on their hands, or will just be irate that you could waste Yahoo's cyber storage capacity with pointless questions to which the whole of the world knows the answer to.

Terrorists attack us BECAUSE we have troops in middle east countries. Bring the troops home and the terrorist attacks stop. The number of troops we have in any one country isn't enough to make a difference. I think we have fewer than 50, 000 in Germany and that's the largest amount we have in any one country. However, we have troops in 50 countries, and we need 200,000 troops here at home rotating with those troops in foreign countries. I'm excluding Afghanistan and Iraq in these numbers. I see no value in maintaining small numbers of troops in 50 countries. It just causes resentment and terrorism. Bring them home and the world will be a safer place to live.

Lets say the country of Syria decides it wants to rule our country, take our country as it's own. Exactly how are you going to stop them. Write them a freindly letter, invite them for a tea and discuss it with you? And what if they agree to discuss it and decide no, they don't agree with you and next week they will be taking over. So, how do you handle this and keep us free?

Not only that, close the borders and use the money we save to fix public education and make medical insurance companies not for profit. That'll be the day. :)
Edit: Razgriz, you don't believe Iraq had anything to do with the attacks on the US do you? If so you need to do some research.

Welcome Back, Kelly B...I missed You!!
I agree 100% with you that we should...The reason is because the Foreign countries around the World complain that the U.S. keeps medling in their country's business...This creates Terrorism that may come to your home turf...Look at other countries that mind their own business, then calculate how many times they harbopr Terrorism..
Sometimes Statistics DO tell the Truth!!

Isolationism sounds like a good idea right now. And the US has the resources to pull it off.
But, the powerful big business elite will never let it happen, as corporate globalism needs a military chaperone to maximize the 'potential' of foreign markets.

When will you brainless libs get the fact that they condemn us because of our freedoms? When we do mind our own business, libs claim we are not helping our poor countries around the world, can't win with them either way!

I love the idea.
You know, when I was a kid, I wondered why the USA had enemies. At our heart we're a simple, freedom loving people, and I couldn't understand why anyone would want to be our enemy. If we truly stand for freedom and justice, then why do we need such a powerful death machine like our military?
Fact is, our government is out of touch with our people. Of course there is badness and sick people throughout the world, but we should be able to easily fight that off with a quarter of our military spending... and if need be, ramp up a war machine like WWII.
No... often times the US Government is the enemy of freedom and justice and that is a sad realization to come to. We should largely withdrawl militarily and largely engage with peaceful endevours.
