As a few people have said, all of us do some things that are not good for us, such as smoking, eating poorly, etc. However, I take that saying as referring to the negative self-talk we give ourselves. Such as, "I will never make any real money," "I am not good at that," "I could never learn to do that," etc. In that way, we are our own worst enemy. An enemy may say bad things about us but we can get away from the enemy, but if we speak badly about ourselves and to ourselves, we can't get away from that.

I'm a perfectionist and that definitely makes me my own worst enemy!! I like things to be perfect and so I am always being critical of myself, thinking I should have been able to do it better!! I'm definitely not as bad as I used to be, I've relaxed a bit as I've gotten older!!

Would you want your loved ones to do some of the things you yourself do? Eating habits, risky behavior, etc etc. Our own choices are usually what put us in the most danger in this world.

Candy, it's because we do things which are not in our best interests. We take risks, or don't think before speaking, or smoke or overeat...
