There is nothing wrong with the name Dixie. Hasn't anyone ever heard of Dixie Carter? Dixie Lee Crosby? (Granted, that wasn't her real name.) Also, Anna Ryder Richardson has a daughter named Dixie.

Anyway, Dixie is a great name for a girl. Or a boy for that matter.

Personally, I don't think there is anything wrong with it, I think it's really cute for a little girl.
Although, I wouldn't use it for 2 reasons:
1) It would sound really funny with my long German last name (same reason we won't use Cheyenne, although hubby and I love the name!)
2) I had a male cat I named that when I was a little kid.

Unless there are lots of Dixies in your area, go for it!

That is my name. In my 24 years I've never had anyone treat me like a racist because of my name. I actually have several black friends and they think my name is cute and it never dawned on them. That has to be the stupidest garbage ever. I do hate my name but everyone I say it to loves it. In elementary school I did get teased but in college no one treats me unfair. I know of 3 other dixies. One I met in high school through another friend. One is my cousins cousin on her mom's side. I had someone tell me their friend has a daughter named dixie. I couldn't go by my middle name since it is just a middle name and doesn't sound like a first name. It's leigh pronounced "lee". I got my middle name from Vivien leigh. Just doesn't sound like a good first name.

Sounds to old fashioned it's not really into today's names and I don't think "Dixie" would literally fit. Makes me think of the south or something besides. And you can get some nasty things out of that name that people can make fun of the girl with.

k, well some people might think of it as disposable cups and plates, because there are disposable cups and plates named Dixie. And then the other might be, they think your naming your daughter after a faerie because faeries use pixie and dixie dust to sprinkle over people. And Dixie is just not in these days, no offence. But if you like it, don't go with what other people say, what matters is that you like it. I think it's a unique name, but for me, I just wouldn't use it. But you can, don't let anyone slow you down from choosing that name. If you like it, go with it!

I think that a child with the name “Dixie” would be judged as having a racist family, because Dixie = South = Confederacy which brings to mind images of the oppression of black people and the Klan. That’s just how it is. It would really limit her and be unfair if in college and in the workplace people assumed she was closed-minded and hateful to other races.

Also, as many people stated…her nickname would be Dic or Dicky, even if you didn’t call her that, eventually someone (other teenagers can be mean) would to be hateful. I think it would hurt a girl’s self-esteem, especially, to be called a term for a man’s private area. If that happened to me, I would want to change my name or go by my middle name.

I LOVE IT MYSELF AND CONSIDERED USING IT FOR A NAME WHEN I HAD MY CHILDREN.sorry about the caps.i am from Mississippi and i love the name cause i love the south but i have lived in Michigan over 29 years.if i had stayed in the south i might have named a daughter Dixie Dawn for "southern sunshine" my thoughts.but i wouldn't because people are cruel and ignorant and i would not want my kid picked on just because other people did not like her name.so if you live in the south it is fine otherwise no.

My daughters name is Dixie Lynn. If anyone thinks Dixie is another name for dick then their the one with problems... that's like saying if you name your son Richard he's gonna be called Dick and get made fun of. & it is country... so? Some people like country names! Everyone I know when they ask my daughters name LOVE it & say its cute, and no one says hey that reminds me of my husbands penis etc.
