I fell for a fraud with someone pretending to be Wells Fargo, and gave them my social security number. Is there any way I can stop them from using it???

And if not then what can they do with it???

Make a police report and keep an accurate record of date, call, and any other information. You will need it in the event they use it.

Someone stole my bf's social security card and birth certificate and acctually went to a rehab center using it. His credit report had a huge collection reported from this. Luckly, he was in the Navy and had thorough documentation that he was on a ship out in the middle of the ocean when this person went to rehab in the midwest. They told him he need to make a police report before they would entertain anything he had to say.

So, make sure you check your credit report regularly and change and/or close any account number you may have refered to over the phone. (Social Security will not give you a new number.)

No way to really stop them from using it, and there are lots of things they can do with it.

Your best move is to ask all three credit bureaus to put an alert on your credit file so nobody but you can open any accounts.

Good luck
