I think for the 11 year old yes, 14 is understandable i believe that at 11 they really don't need a myspace and then you would have to watch them alot because at 11 they don't understand some much about the world and still even older kids don't realize how dangerous the computers are and how easy it is for something to happen to them if they say too much information.

I think 11 is a little too soon to have a myspace. So, maybe you'll can make an agreement, that when he/she turns 13, that it'll be okay to get one. But just talk with him that he understands it's for his protection. Now, your 14 yr. old is old enough. Just talk with him about the etiquette of having one. Suggest making the page private and see who his friends are. Make sure his friends are age appropiate.

Ive been a netcop for as long as internet has been called internet.
Deleting anything they consider to be "theirs" will just make them more likely to hide it from you. And piss them off more than you might want.
However, they cant say anything if you check up on them thru public methods. Use search engines to check on them regularly. What can they say about you finding them thru public searches?
As far as pictures, ask them if they feel that those images should be posted to local bulleting boards such as at the grocery store or in the hall of their school. Sometimes that will make the point.
In any case, dont let them convince you that internet is some "new" thing needing new rules. What you consider to be right and proper in the real world is a good base to work off of for what you should consider right and proper in the virtual world. Letting them convince you that they should be allowed to play at being more grownup online just because its online is a BAD direction to go.

you shouldn't delete it... just supervise it. Ask them to give you the password and monitor everything. Set the page to private. Change it so it requires confirmation to leave comments and don't let them post their real personal information. Make sure the only use it to talk to friends and family they know and not strangers.
