He has dropped off the face of the earth and I have no way of locating him. Also, I'm under the impression that I have to file in California, is this true?

No you don't. All you have to do is file for divorce in your nearest county court, use his old address to relocate him. The county court would send him divorce papers and if he can't be located, one signature is enough to divorce and you move on with your life. Its uncontested divorce which would be easier for you to handle yourself without a lawyers

No, simply take a short trip to Reno, Nevada, get a divorce there, much easier and cheaper than Calif. or Idaho. Establish a 30 days residence, pay a small fee, and wham, youre ready to go for another choice. And try your luck while their you might even win enough to make the whole encounter productive. Lots of Luck......

NO you file in the state in which you live. I know a gal that wanted to move out of state for a better job. So she waited to file after she was in the other state. That way the judge couldn't make her stay in the state her husband lived in till till the kids were 18. File where you live and good luck.

how long ago did he disappear? you can file for divorce anywhere. more info please...
