Levels and sub-levels, depends on amount of detail.
Shells are K, L, M, N, O, P, Q
subshells are: 1s, 2s, 2p, 3s, 3p, 3d, 4s, 4p, 4d, 4f, 5s, 5p, 5d, 5f, 5g, 6s, 6p, 6d,6(f,g,h), 7s
K=1, hence 1s
L=2, 2s, 2p
M=3, 3s etc
N=4
O=5
P=6
Q=7

Hence gold is written:
1s2,2s2,2p6,3s2,3p6,3d10,4s2,4p6,4d10,4f14,5s2,5p6,5d10,6s1
