You could so some arts and crafts. Try collecting a bunch of leaves and whatever else outside and glue on paper. Make a fall collage. Or tape a few leaves (not dried out ones) to one side of a piece of construction paper then flip over and color over them. The patterns of the leaves will come through. Kids love that kind of stuff! Or put some paint and paper out and tell them to make whatever they want. Kids like freedom of choice. What do you like to do when you're by yourself? Any fun crafts? An 8 yr old could maybe string beads to make a necklace. Learn how to latchhook. Making your own necklaces and bracelets are cool.
Make fruit prints; either you or an adult pre cut an apple and put out red and green and yellow paints then they can dip the apple in and make prints on paper. Draw with a child. There's so many different things to do out there!
You can always go to google.com and search for "art projects for 4 year olds or 8 year olds". Ask your mom or dad for help. They might have some good ideas.

You could also make paper-bag puppets. Once they have some characters made, the kids will put on a "show" for you and all you have to do is watch!
