I've been working at my job for about three weeks. Not to brag, but I know I have done very well since I am more of a people person and good at communication when it comes to sales. Last night, a friend and I worked with a new employee, he is 18 and was hired on Thursday. But he told us last night that he was our new shift manager. He does not know how to do anything, he has a horrible temper when it comes to doing anything for the job, he charges customers too much, he is also very rude to the customers. Another fact is that he is the son of the manager's friend. So my question is, is this appropriate? More over, is this even right for my manager to do? He does not know how to do anything and could possibly ruin the company's customer service reputation. I really like this job, it's the first one I've enjoyed, even though I've had gread displeasure about my managers. Sadly I think I have to look for a new job already. I don't understand what kind of manager would do that.

You need not to look for another job, Just do your job and do it well. Do not worry about the new kid and the manager that situation will take care of it self.
I believe what is for you is for you even though it might take a little bit of time. You just be patient and wait it out. It sounds like it's just a matter of time before this kid hangs him self.

Only an incompetent manager would be so stupid. It's not appropriate at all, and it even borders on illegal.

If you're already looking for another job, you should probably just go ahead and let them know how you feel, what harm can it do if you plan on leaving anyway?

Also, if they lose enough good employees, then perhaps they'll come to their senses and fire the kid, before he destroys the whole company.

Perhaps the manager was under pressure from his friend to hire the boy and it was easier to give him the job than to refuse to do so. I don't and you don't know the actual situation, so we really should not judge. Is it right? Well, he can hire who he chooses without your personal approval. In any case, what I think will happen is that shortly the kid will be fired or transferred out. This way, your manager can tell his friend that he tried to help the kid out, but it wasn't working, and things can go back to normal. Just ride it out; I bet it won't take very long.
