I think that coming up with a lovely name for the child to call you is important. My grandmother liked being called "oma" (german) so much that many of her friends and the whole family calls her that now!

I like the idea of:
Gramma
Grammy
Nana
Nanny
Grams
Nanny
Granny
Grans

Or taking a cultural name:
Mamie (French)
Nonna (Italian)
or whichever culture you are!

You could also make a nickname from your name... it looks like your name is suzette, so why not:
Grannette
or Gramma Sue

Congratulations, and good luck finding the right name. My Dad wanted to be called: "Grumps" when I had my first kid. He is Grumpa!

The kids will kind of pick a name for you. My niece has Grandma & Pa and Nana & Papa. We called my grandmother Gram. This was after years of calling her grandma. My youngest cousin started calling her Gram and it stuck.

lol here is the problem. unless they want you to, do not push for a name. the baby's parents should pick the name. if they gave you the honor, be very careful. my parents in law tried to have my son named something i didnt like, and we almost got in a fight. so be careful and consult them. do not just throw the name out there and say it's final. that can create some bad vibe between you all. if you are looking to be called something yourself, here's an idea: grandma! or, if you and the baby's parents wish, you can be called mama______ <--your name there. so many choices, but be ver careful.because they have every right to choose, and they dont even have to listen to you.

When our oldest (first grand baby on both sides of the family) was born, my mother chose to be called "gramma" and my mother in-law chose to be called "grandmama" Nothing too uncommon, but a little distinction between the two, which is nice :)

My kids call their grandmas Grammy and Grandy, and their grandpas Baba and Big Daddy. Their great-grandparents are Nanny & Papa and Uncle Jack and Mimi. Great-grandpa Jack insisted on being called Uncle =]

I like Grammie / Grammy, Grandy, and Baba (grandma or grandpa). Or you could just stick to the traditional "Grandma" or "Grandpa".

My mother is Nanny and my mother in law is Grammy. Nana is a good one too because that could easily be one of baby's first words!
