It is not forgiveness if you do. You must give up all hope of changing the past. peace

Possibly, but the probability of that happening is very low. When you forgive someone it will always be in the back of your mind that what is expected is that the person WILL NOT do whatever it was again. To forgive without that goes against human nature...

Tough question.

For some people I care so much that I could never imagine needing to forgive them.

For some people I care so little that I could not imagine wanting to forgive them.

I don't see that you have to form expectations to offer forgiveness. It is like a gift of sorts you give because you want to, and gift that come with strings aren't really gifts at all.

The only expectation that I give to forgiveness is that I do so willingly and with joy or not at all.

If you forgive from the* heart, you will not expect anything! Forgiveness means letting it go!
