When we are not sure of something, it is always better not to pass judgement.
You are putting words of your choice, 'suicide', thru your [mis]leading question, isn't it?

its their way of taking a step towards salvation....leaving worldly and materialistic love of things so that they can focus on their existence and look for reasons and answers to the deeper questions of life...
They want to do minimum bad karmas so as to get a better life in the next birth and also to break the cycle of rebirths and at the end of it all attain salvation...
Its like the struggle we do in school days to achieve something good in the adult life....they do it to be relievd of the world in their future birth and free of the sufferings of this world...
this is the gist of it...hope i cud give you some reason here!!!
