I am okay with spiking the ball if it is an outlet of real emotion, but we have gotten to the point where TD celebrations take away from the game. These pre planned skits are an insult to the NFL, fan and a players own team. Its a team game, where is the wr without an offensive line giving the qb time to throw ?? Not to mention a penalty that hurts your team. While I admire Chad Johnson and TO's ability, these are self centered idiots. I wish their offensive lineman would slap them around a bit and remind them they are adults. The best take was Dave Casper, Tight End of the Raiders in the 70's, when he said if you make it to the end zone, act like you have been there before.

First of all will some of you please take a trip by any means out of the 70's and 80's so you can join the rest of us in the new millennium? These aren't the days of Walter Peyton, "Fridge" Perry, Bernie Kosar, and all. This is the age of players like Chad Johnson, Steve Smith, LaDanian Tomlinson, and so forth.
I remember watching the celebrations of Deion Sanders, Emmitt Smith, and so forth. They were fun, entertaining, and got everyone fired up. I personally think that people who cannot enjoy are merely casual fans. More hardcore fans like myself get a kick out of them. NFL is supposed to mean National Football League, and not No Fun League. These players are not suit wearing professionals going to work in Wall Street. They are football players, playing a game, and showing that they are having fun. I am all for that.

I don't particularly like them for the following reasons.
First, it is a self-centered. It says "everybody look at me!"
You just scored a touchdown. Let your game speak for itself.
Second, it is selfish. Not only do you risk a penalty hurting your team, you also can fire an opponent up immensely. Several Chicago Bears said that Bush's celebration last year in the playoffs fired them up enormously. The results after that play speak for themselves.
Third, it is bush-league. For an NFL player to spend that much time an effort coming up with silly dances or gimmicks is ridiculous. The great Walter Payton never celebrated. His famous line was "when you score a touchdown, act as if you have been there before."
Last, it lacks class. It shows up an opponent in an ostentatious display of stupidity. It shows a lack of respect for your opponent and the game itself. It is no coincidence that the games greatest players (Rice, Payton, LT, Manning, etc.) don't celebrate TDs like that.
All that being said, it is hard to argue that some of Chad Johnson's and TOs celebrations aren't entertaining.

I hate them. Especially the ghetto NFL celebrations. It shows no class. What if baseball players did a dance at home plate after a home run ??? He would get his *** kicked, that's what !!! The best quote I've heard about touchdown celebrations was when someone asked Barry Sanders why he doesn't put an explanation point on his touchdowns with an end zone celebration. Barry simply replied, "What's wrong with a period ?"

There's just too much of "Look at me" going on. They're goofy, but what really kills me is when a guy makes a routine tackle & acts like he just found the cure for cancer!

I don't particularly like them, because It's just a way to show how cocky and full of yourself you are.
Sometimes I don't mind, especially if it's more of a comeback touchdown,
then you could really celebrate.
It just kind of depends what situation it is.
