I have an assignment to do a comparison on absolute music and program music. I require a site, as I need to write up the bibliography as well. And not Wikipedia, as I'm not allowed to use it as a source. Thanks.

I tried a search engine, but I kept getting things like "A program to download music" or "a music program" or things like "Absolute Music is your complete music shop." I would appreciate some help. >_>

Here are a few starting points for you. The idea is not to just take these as 'final destinations', but as jumping off points for further research you can do yourself. One or two are academic articles which appear to be available only to their subscribers. Lower down the page you will see that, for research purposes, we can gain 'momentary' access, i.e. 24 hours, for a merely nominal fee of a few dollars.

The entries for programme music below are more numerous because abstract music invariably gets discussed in direct relation to it, covering both bases in one, as it were.

Have a good AV running - it's always a risk - but what's the point of having a computer if you don't try things. I really advise getting Norton Ghost and backing up your system so when you try these things - you always have a backup. Of course, you can always use "system restore" if something happens. Another thing is you can always research the site - Typically though, if you have a decent AV, it won't even let you access an internet site with a virus - or you SAVE the file (without installing) and have your AV scan the file. These are just options....

Why don't you try googling "program music" and "absolute music" and do the research that way. That way you've done all the work yourself, and you can feel good about that.

Good Luck
