Many of them are listening to the same groups. I'm sure you have read in the news about bands from the eighties regrouping for tours. Here in Austin at the "Austin City Limits" concert, the top act was Bob Dylan who started in the 1950's. The Grand Ole Opry has performers who had did shows there in the 1940's. Little Jimmy Dickens and Kitty Wells among others.

Depends on how far over forty. A lot of people that age and over listen to the oldies radio stations because so much of the current music is not of a quality they care to hear. In general, the music is so loud that it smothers the singer's voice, and many of the lyrics are vulgar. Of course not being able to hear the words may be a blessing in itself. Don't get me wrong, there are many good singers and bands out there. However, much of the music is just plain annoying.

In my own personal case everything except rap/hip hop, hair bands and heavy metal.
I like music that spans from the 30s up to current music like Josh Groban, Nickleback, Michael Buble , Diana Krall, Keith Urban, Martina McBride, Reba , Kelly Clarkston and just about everything in between.

I listen to the old rock and roll station. I know all the words and I sing with the tunes and when I do I feel I'm a teenager again, housework is so much better,as is cooking. My radio is tuned to the oldies and I have CD.s of oldies that I play too.
