The psyche of the victim or the perpetrator?

Victim - Feels ashamed, embarrassed, inferior, lowers self confidence, raises self doubt, becomes submissive etc ....

I think humiliation and torture affects victims psyche in different ways. Torture or inflicted suffering can bring forth feelings of hatred, resentment, rage, and of course sadness, despair, etc... Torture does not bring forth feelings of shamefulness like Humiliation does. People are not ashamed because they were tortured. However, humiliation puts people on public display. It degrades people to the level of cattle. They are made to feel sub-human which is why I think, it lowers their self confidence more than torture does. A rather effective tactic of slave owners in America was to humiliate slaves as well as torture them. Calling blacks "Boy" - "Niggeer" - "Slave" caused blacks to feel like they were inferior. Putting them on display at public venues for sell must have been humiliating to the first slaves. But after awhile blacks felt like they were cattle because they were humiliated and degraded to believe such. I just thought of a saying...

"Beat a man down and he will hate you forever. Make him feel like he`s less than a man and he will obey you forever"

The human psyche is a condition in " and " of itself, an elastic thing that wefts and warps so as to adjust to assaults and imports rocketing into each mind and heart from infinite points.

And dignity and humiliation typify the extremes; and do constitute and encapsulate the very agar of the universes, which the human psyche mitigates for or against, not unlike as a tuned mass damper perform.

Count the expressions of this result: some become rulers and governors of worlds; while others, wanderers and saints.

It depends on how the person or group of people responds to it. Humiliation may lead to a negative view of yourself and your people if the reaction is a negative one. On the other hand, the people could become stronger as a result of the humiliation.

The Jewish people are a great lesson in the latter. Throughout its history, they have experienced nothing but degradation and humiliation, and yet they have maintained a strong identity and have survived.

On the other hand, other indigenous cultures did not fare too well when they experienced similar humiliations. Again, it all depends on how you respond to it.
