That ritual was practiced back in the ancient Middle East, it was a sign of hospitality it was customary for the host to wash and dry the feet of their guest as they lounged in their home. Either the host himself would wash their feet or have a servant do the chore but it was a means of demonstrating to the guest that they are welcome and favored. It was not in any way a sign of submission, merely a sign of hospitality. After a time though I am sure the custom was perverted to suit the needs of those who deemed themselves superior to the person doing the act, thusly it seems that is how it has been translated today.

You know if you want to give your husband a pedicure fine, but come on 'kneel before your husband'? Kiss is feet?
There is a line here and people sometimes don't see it. Since when does the word 'submission' fall into this?
I think a man who demands that is full of it. A woman who feels its her responsibility needs to do some sole searching too. Its ridiculous.

This is why there is so much divorce in America. You women are so freaking disrespectful and childish. It is biblical to kneel and obey, and submit to your husband. YES, HELL YES, you should kneel at his feet. It is of God to do so in order to show him your submission. When a woman says no, and he can kiss his @$$, it is a woman s lib mentality. Well, I the end, you ALL will answer to God for your obnoxious, arrogant, selfish, stuck up self centered bitchy attitude and actions. To you who wrote this, the answer is a biblical YES!

If you are looking at it from a biblical standpoint than both husband and wife should wash each other's feet....it is not supposed to be a sign of submission but rather an outward expression of serving others. Christ washed the disciples feet to show them that He came to serve others not to be served...

NO this isn't a requirement of submission. Nothing is wrong with washing your husbands feet if that is what you want to do. However, there is no way he should force you into believing htat you have to do that and kiss them in order to show submission.

The washing of ones feet is a sign of humility. Why not pamper each others feet.
The kneeling part? NO! The worshipping of another human is uncalled for.

A husband should kneel before his wife.
Have we not learned anything from ousting the Taliban? Women need more respect in this world.
A man that demands submission is borderline gay. Nothing against gays. I'm just saying that that is what he is if he treats a woman that way.

Actually thats really cute if your deeply inlove and he knows your ONLY doing it cuz you love him and want to make him feel special. If a man feels he is a above a women and she should do this to show him she knows he is the boss is completely wrong! The guy should do that for his pregnant wife as well!
