You can always see people doing this on TV. As it is a custom, what's their argument?

so they wont get dirt on the carpet...lol

but really
Most of the Asian nations like Japan, China, Nepal and India have the tradition of taking shoes off before entering the house. The traditional houses have a rack for shelving shoes outside the door. Hindu people have been highly influenced by this tradition. While there can be several reasons for taking shoes off before entering the house, the religion in these countries plays a major role for this tradition. Health benefits are important too.

Do they really need an argument? Concrete walking surfaces have not always been around. Walking in dust, dirt, and filth was common at one time in all cultures.
My neighbor suffers from many allergies and even today, removing your shoes at the door make the most sense for keeping those allergens down and keeping the house clean.
I'm not Asian but, I wonder why if you know it is their custom would it bother you?

A few east Asian cultures do this, most don't. It is a very practical way of keeping dirt outside. I live in the country in Australia and everyone takes their shoes off when coming into the house. I saves my carpets. Many of the people I know have the same rule at their houses.

We do it at my house, and I live in Houston. Keeps the dust and dirt out of the house and keeps people from tracking up the floor.

This is the first house I've ever lived in that was mostly tile, and wow does it ever make a difference, we just don't see it in the carpet. After guests leave (no, I don't ask them to remove their shoes) it's always necessary to sweep and mop from all the dirt.

They don't walk inside with their shoes on because they don't want to get the floor dirty. They leave it at the main door so if they want to go outside again they can just slip them on without getting the floor dirty and walk off.

It's dirty wearing shoes in the house, because you walk in sh*t everyday.

You leave it by the main doors because you put them on when you go out.

It's not an ideological custom; it's practical.

Many British people do the same by the way....
