Pride and Prejudice is definitely a good read. It will be a quick read too if you've seen the movies, because it just helps you keep the character's straight. Elizabeth has some great monologues in the book that aren't in any of the movies. Jane Austen has definitely written her with an amazingly quick wit. After you read this one, I would suggest Sense and Sensibility, also a great read by Jane Austen.

As the majority opinion here states, it's a pretty good read. I'd suggest "Sense and Sensibility" by Austen as well. Personally those are the only two books I liked from her, but that's me. I've never liked anything by the Bronte sisters.

For the classics, I'd recommend:
To Kill a Mockingbird
The Hobbit and the Lord of the Rings
Robinson Crusoe
1984
Brave New World

Hope this is helpful! Enjoy!

"Pride and Prejudice" is just about as good as it gets. I'm also a big fan of Jane Austen's "Persuasion."

Some of my other favorite "classic" reads include:
"To Kill a Mockingbird" by Harper Lee
"A Tale of Two Cities" by Charles Dickens
"The Scarlet Letter" by Nathaniel Hawthorne
and - even though it's huge - "Les Miserables" by Victor Hugo

All of them have important things to say about the world, but even more importantly, they're great stories.

I LOVE that book, very good. Anything Jane Austen writes is good. Although I can't say I enjoyed Wuthering Heights, very difficult to get in to.

Pride And Prejudice is my favorite classic. I've re-read it several times and I love the mini-series, starring Jennifer Ehle and Colin Firth.
I've enjoyed all of Jane Austen's other novels, as well.

Wow! It's tough for me to pick just one. Here are just a few (sorry, I can't narrow it down): Jane Eyre, Crime and Punishment, Moby Dick, A Christmas Carol, A Journey to the Center of the Earth, The War of the Worlds, House of the Seven Gables, and The Scarlet Letter.
