I can sympathize: I have cats that jump on almost everything, which makes setting out baits a risky proposition.

Sheer cleanliness will control most pests. But for when you need some extra oomph, I've found borax- or solutions with borax in them- work best. Also, there are a number of aromatic herbs that fleas, ticks, and mosquitoes don't like. Examples are members of the mint family, sage, tansy, and fennel. Diatomaceous earth is effective against cockroaches too.

Good luck!

Ok, so we've got unwelcomed pets roaming our castle! Let's put our foot down right now! Pay rent, or get the hello out! (Seriously though, if roaches paid rent, I wouldn't mind having them stay for a while! Especially if I lost my job!)

First, we need to get the basics down.. Clean up any food particles, water spillage, and or dirt from any areas where you see roaches! Especially true for your kitchen! Keep those areas dry! Remember, roaches are natures natural way of cleaning something up! Yes, roaches and insects play a critical roal in the world!)

Next get you some bleack and water to scrub any droppings you might have came accross.

Now, we know that roaches can multiply by the hundreds! (Literiarily! Not just saying that!)

We've already attached their food source, now let's destroy their homes, and then their kids!

(NOTE! Although they can multiply grately, it takes about 3 months!)

Vacumm in tight spots! Under the counter top, in cracks, corners, and dark spaces! You'll surely to get nests, eggs, and the whole nine!

Then, get roach baits! They aren't toxic, they don't smell, and they are effective! The roaches eat the baits, and die! But get this, the baits keeps killing them. A roach, or insect, will usually bring food back to their nest to feed their young. The eggs will die, pregnant bugs will dies (god bless those lil buggies!), and any new roaches will die too! Why? Because an insect, (or roach for that matter) will often feed off of dead bugs. Those dead bugs are already infected. That's why they dead!

Don't look for immiedate results, but rather give yourself about 2 to 3 weeks to see great results! I bet you're gonna than the hello out of me! Anyway, hope this helps, and good luck!

I used Boric Acid powder when i lived on campus, never had a roach or water bug, though neighbors did. I did not put it where it was accessible by my son, who was a toddler, and instead put it behind the stove and behind the refrigerator only.

We had severe ant problems this summer, from the drought. The only thing I found to get rid of them, Sevin dust, which is for use on edible veggies in your garden. Do not know if it is toxic to humans, but I never saw any more ants.
