It is the last name of the actress that played Janet on Three's Company (a US TV show in the 70's). Joyce Dewitt. I would not name a child Dewitt. Or Joyce, for that matter.

i know of two people with Dewitt as a last name. I dont think it would make a very good first name.

Yes, Dewitt is a variant of the Dutch surname De Witte, meaning "the white one." Yes it is, and it just so happens that DeWitt is my Middle name, and it was my grndfathers first name. It means Blond. and i would appriciate if some of you stopped making fun of it.
