Does the concept of a "soul" as a spiritual immaterial reality, separate from the body, exist in the Bible?

The Greek word psyche is translated to soul in some versions of the New Testament, but the greek word psyche means life, vitality or the self, so there appears to be no basis for our interpretation of soul as something immaterial and separate from the body.
