ok so my best friend and i are traveling to Canada by air so we had to apply for a passport . Only thing i'm worried about id the fact that she was arrested 4 years a go it was non violent she was placed on probation she just finished paying her fines etc and now they are gonna expunge her arrest record ...so we called the department of state to see if there would be a problem they said she would be ok because she wasnt flagged in there system and if there was a problem they wouldnt have been able to give her one ......,do you think we'd have a problem once we got to canada

They told you no, didn't they? How many times do you need to hear it? Like anybody on these answer boards (myself included) knows more than the dept of state. She was on adjudicated probation; she has completed it successfully. It is as if it never happened. She hasn't been flagged as a risk. Stop worrying and take your trip.

You shouldn't have a problem unless it's a felony on her record. She wouldn't have a problem getting to Canada but sometimes a felony can cause a problem getting back into the US, even if it was a non violent crime. But if she is able to get a passport without a problem then I would think it would not be an issue at all. If her record has been expunged by the time you travel then it won't even come up.

I don't think you should have a problem at all.
Have fun!
