With all the trouble in heterosexual marriages, would you still consider marriage, or just live together. Do you want the right to marry for the benefits, or just because it would validate the relationship? I am not gay, but I am all for gay marriage. I don't see how two people loving each other is wrong, or why you all can't marry. Any serious answers are welcome-or non serious, either way.

Definitely. It's not so much for the sake of marriage or the benefits but that it is a recognition of dedication.

Civil unions and other programs where marriage benefits equate are never truly equal to the marriage definition for heterosexuals. Whenever you have something with a separate name, it is never equal. In the minds of psychology and proven so many times, separate is never equal.

Nope, the only man I love split up with me almost a year ago. But, I would like to see couples with a better situation be able to get married.
I have friends in stable Gay and Lesbian relationships and they deserve the benefit of marriage.

To Sam S.
My partner and I have been together 25 years and we are still as in love as the first week we were together. We work and lived together. We've both buried our mothers and are taking care of aging fathers. We've both had major medical problems or surgeries in the past years and it's a big hassle to make sure you have the powers necessary to make decisions for your partner. Fortunately in my case, my inlaws totally accept me and that I am the decision-maker and my Dad accepts my partner and that he is. Still, will-wise, it is a pain and a hassle. Only because my company has domestic partnerships can I leave him my pension if something happens to me. If I didn't work for such a company and something happened to the other, we could not inherit it as a husband or a wife could. We've had to spend thousands of dollars just to make sure our partners are protected whereas while we've outlasted many hetero couples, we are not recognized as a couple. Is it fair in a country whose declaration includes the words :all men are created EQUAL?

Sure I would.....in a heartbeat!

But unfortunately, straight men have apparently become all but obsolete these days. I've been divorced for about 15 years now, and would love nothing more than to meet the right man, settle down, and marry him. But HOW can I if all the men I know are hooking up with other MEN??????!?!?

If I ever find someone I love enough, I want to get married. To be honest, it would be mostly for the rights and benefits that married couples get. I'd never need outside validation to know how much I love someone.
But, damn, I'd love the health benefits and other advantages str8 couples get.

In Canada, same sex marriages are legal.
Would I do it? Perhaps if I was with the right woman.
Is it necessary? No. I can live common-law and have my partner under all of my benefits.
Some choose that route as a statement of their love and I wish them luck.
With all the pros of straight marriage, come all the cons of straight marriage ie. divorce lawyers....

I would...not because it would validate my relationship because honestly when it comes down to it... it's just a piece of paper and some extra perks but I would want to because I SHOULD have the right to choose to marry so if it was important to my partner I would.

I might, just because of all of te legal benefits that are provided for married couples. Other than that, I don't see much of a point in it.
