Actually Helen was from Sparta and she became famous after Paris of Troy abducted Helen to Troy she became famous as 'HELEN OF TROY" -
The story goes like this -
Helen of Troy was the daughter of Leda and Zeus, sister of Clytemnestra, Castor and Pollux (the Dioscuri), and wife of Menelaus. The beauty of Helen of Troy was so overwhelming that Theseus once abducted her. Before Helen married Menelaus all her other suitors swore to help bring Helen back should she be abducted again. When Paris of Troy abducted Helen, the suitors were obliged to honor their oath and so the Trojan War was fought to bring her back home. Helen of Troy is referred to as the face that launched a thousand ships.
In fact both Helen and Paris did not sacrifice anything and blindly loving each other. Only the thousand of people of Troy and Sparta, sacrificed their life in the process-

I t is Helen of Troy. Although I did know a girl named Helen who lived in Paris. And I'm sure Paris Hilton has been to Paris, But I don't know anyone named Troy, except my son-in-law, and he has never been to either Paris or Troy. He has sait he would like to go to Paris, but if he did, Troy would be in Paris and where would that leave the people that live in Troy. They would all have no place to live. Maybe they could all live in Constantinople, which isn't even a place any more because they changed it to Istanbul. I don't know.

I always wondered why it was called Helen of Troy. Paris belonged there.
Yes, there is a lot of self sacrifice involved in the movies. But I wonder what it was like in the real World of that time.
A waste of young lives, like any war.
