of rights, there is a constant stuggle for what each wants, which results in 2/3 divorces. Is there any chance of marriage recovering, for heterosexuals, I mean?
(Gays are still testing the waters in their marriages, and we have yet to see whether they will have better or worse marriages than heterosexuals.)

First marriage is an institution created by wealthy people to preserve their wealth. Only wealthy people were married back in the old days.
Second, it was harder to survive as a single person 100 years ago. Many people lived on farms and needed help to survive, thats why marriage was needed. This of course was especially true for women, b/c women werent able to support themselves with no skills and education so getting married was needed not expected.
Lastly, many women and children suffered because they didnt have any rights. Physical, Mental, and Sexual abuse wouldnt be reported because for the unequal treatment between husbands and wives. It was acceptable to beat your wife back in the day.

Marriages "survived" because it was difficult to get out of them. Divorce is easier today and rightly so. Far less than 100 years ago women were not allowed to work if they were married. They were often assaulted by their husbands with no retreat from the situation. They had few rights at all.
Eveyone should have equal rights no matter their sex or sexuality, colour or religion etc. Discrimination on these grounds should never be tolerated. Going back to how it was 50 years ago is a horrendous idea. Unfortunately there are many places in the world where advances have not been made and discrimination is still rife.

I think marriage is f uc king stupid, but whatever. A lot of women get married to the wrong men for the wrong reasons. Then they are divorced a few years later with a kid and no one wants thems. Well, thats your fault because there is some guy out there that would have never treated you like krap but you did'nt want him you or your husband tricked you into believing he was something he was not. Now you got to deal with it. There is nothing better then seein an old couple who have been married for like 50 years, that is beautiful, but chances are these people would have been like that without a ceremony and ring.

I don't think you know what you're talking about. There is a high divorce rate these days because we live in a disposable world. Wife gained weight? Dump her for a younger, thinner model. Husband having an ED crisis? Dump him for someone who goes all night. It has nothing to do with rights and everything to do with old fashion values. What ever happened to "til death do us part"? Now it is "til something better comes along". And gay couples who commit to one another tend to stay committed longer that straight couples. And since it is illegal for gay couples to marry (why? that is so stupid!) they can't get divorced, so that doesn't even figure.
